SAN FRANCISCO - APRIL 28: Heads of romaine lettuce fill a produce case at the Fruit Barn produce store in San Francisco. Laboratory studies commissioned by the Environmental Working Group in Oakland found the chemical perchlorate, a hormone disrupter, in four of 22 samples of lettuce traced to growers in Southern California or Arizona. A typical serving of the contaminated lettuce would contain four times the level of perchlorate considered safe in drinking water. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

At least five local people are sick from an E. Coli outbreak that is sweeping across the U.S….

SacBee.com says that there are two cases of E. Coli here in Sacramento County and 3 additional cases in Placer County. Seven other cases are still under investigation.

The Centers For Disease Control say that 84 cases of E. Coli have been confirmed across the U.S. but thankfully, there have been no casualties.

So how can you make sure that you don’t get sick from this E. Coli outbreak? Cdc.gov listed these tips:

  • Do not eat or buy romaine lettuce unless you can confirm it is not from the Yuma, Arizona, growing region.

  • Product labels often do not identify growing regions; so, do not eat or buy romaine lettuce if you do not know where it was grown.

  • This advice includes whole heads and hearts of romaine, chopped romaine, and salads and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce. If you do not know if the lettuce in a salad mix is romaine, do not eat it.
