A man from Argentina legally changed his gender so that he could retire earlier.

The tax official changed one letter of his name in order to make the switch, reports Daily Nation. So Sergio, the 59-year-old divorcee, is now Sergia. He was able to change his gender without going through surgery under the protection of a certain law.

In Argentina, women can retire at 60 and men at 65. So he changed his gender in order to retire five years earlier!

Matias Assennato, the head of the Salta province civil registry, said:

“This is a clear case of abuse of misuse of retirement rights and of the law on gender identity.”

It’s unclear at this time if the registry will allow for this change.
