Camera Sees Porch Pirate, So He Tries Stealing That Too [VIDEO]

A package thief in Tracy was stealing a fresh delivery when he noticed a camera was watching him, so he tried to steal that too.

This happened in Tracy just down the road a bit from Sac. A package thief thought he was going in for a good score on an unattended package. What he didn’t realize was that he was being recorded by the homeowner’s video doorbell. So what’s he do? He tries stealing the doorbell too. Yes, there’s video. No word on an arrest yet, but we’re sure that’s coming soon too.

Porch pirates, package thieves, call them whatever you want, there’s no question that they’re scum. So far as I know I’ve been lucky and haven’t lost anything to a thief, but my blood still boils when I think about them. Theft can happen any time, but especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas, and even when you’re home. Anyway, this guy will probably be captured eventually, since he gave the video doorbell a pretty sharp shot of his face while he tried to steal it. You can see the story and the video over here. Luckily, even if he made off with the camera, it probably records to a cloud service over the internet anyway.

Have you ever had a package thief target you? Were police able to catch the thief? Hopefully, now that more and more people are starting to get cameras like these, the porch thieves will start to go away. But maybe they’ll get a little smarter and actually check for cameras before walking up to porches in the future. Though on second thought, we think they probably won’t figure that out.
